Gypsies
Bulgaria boasts its ethnic tolerance in the Balkans. Yet, there are still many ethnic-related problems to be solved. Huge amounts of money are allocated for the Roma’s integration into society from various programs and organizations but they still fail to live well with the rest of the community.
In spite of Bulgarian authorities’ efforts to reduce unemployment, fight crime, and improve people’s life style, there are still citizens who can hardly make both ends meet. A common sight in the streets of Lovech is poor people searching for food in containers, or little gypsies begging for money. Sadly enough, some of these kids’ parents often don’t let them go to school, and force them stay all day out begging. No child deserves such a horrible destiny, especially in the 21st century.
Secondary education is free for all the Bulgarian citizens, no matter of their ethnic origin. While other minorities such as Turks, Jews and Armenians are well integrated in society, this is not always the case with Roma. We are proud that students from minority groups in our school are successfully integrated in the educational process, and are given equal chances to develop their skills.
