Lovech is the capital of the Province of Lovech. Its flag is purple, and bears the so called coat of arms in gold. The emblem was designed by Tosho Mihaylov and was adopted during the communist regime. The colour of the flag was chosen because the nickname of Lovech is The Town of Lilacs.

Outside the town, one can visit the Stratesh Park, which lies on the right bank of the Osam river and represents a wonderful place for recreation with tourist facilities, monuments, ruins of a Medieval fortress and even a zoo. It is also popularly called the Park of Lilies for the abundance of such flowers there.

Lilacs

LilacsAside from roses, there is no flower as beautiful and aromatic as lilacs. Of the two, lilacs have a stronger scent that carries quite a distance. Unfortunately, lilacs bloom for only a very brief couple of weeks in spring. Lilacs originated from Europe and Asia, with the majority of natural varieties coming from Asia. In Europe, lilacs came from the Balkans, France and Turkey.

LIlacsThere are over 1, 000 varieties of lilacs. They come in several colors, with the most popular being the color lilac and purple. White and pink are also popular.

Rochester, New Hampshire, is undoubtedly the Lilac Capital of the World.
